You can take the girl out of the country but you can't take the country out of the girl

The end of week 1 in cow country

The weather has been pretty traditional Rocky Christmas weather....humid, hot, stormy. My Gran's house gets a nice breeze so its not too bad. Thank God Mad Dog hooked me up with a PC though, would feel so out of touch otherwise.

Finished the first coat on the first half a room today (coz I can't move furniture by myself and my mum's arm is still a bit dodge from being broken earlier in the year, I move all the furniture to one side, paint it then do the other....not the most efficient way but it gets the job done). Will do second coat tomorrow. Colours are turtledove for the walls and volcanic ash for the trims. It is a race against the heat though....a combination of packing in the coats and paint drying on the brush.

Have found I like staying up late after everyone else goes to bed. Good alone time....as I am with Gran all day and then with her and mum after about 5.30pm. Nice to just potter and do my own thing without having to talk to anyone and without the pairs feeling like they are getting the cold shoulder....have been going to bed at about 1am and up again at 8-9am. Yet another habit I will have to break when I return to real life.

Was emailing Fletch today and actually typed....."They grow up so fast".....sounds like something my mum would say.....hope all this time here won't speed up the process of me becoming my mother.....oh god....better go and have a fag to cope.

Have also been sending lots of great idea emails to Strawberry and Spare Bear....as I have lots of time to dream up crafty ideas.

E is counting the days till I return....its nice to feel missed....asked her not to tell me how many it is as it will just make me worry that I don't have enought time to do what I want to do here.

Actually told Nell to to work too hard during her holidays tidying up the moving and doing jobs and to make sure she actually enjoyed her break from work.....look who's talking the girls who's painting in 40 degree heat while on long service leave!

I am still trying to adapt to the slower pace of life.....today's front page news in the local paper was a girl who designed her own formal dress....what the? The whole paper is guff.....slow news day...I think no news day!

Only day 2 and I am buggered

Am too tired to even resond to me emails, so just a short post. Started the painting today. Have done undercoat and first coat on one wall. Didn't quite finish the window as discovered a wasp nest outside....of course discovered it when it was 6 inches from my nose.

Walls are turtledove blue and trim is vocanic ash grey......not sure if I like it yet, am sure it will grow on me.

On a brighter note, discovered the greated choc/caramel slice ever at the local bakery - SUPER!

Off for a shower to remove the millions of paint splatters, then a nap I think.......zzzzzzz

Well I'm here.....

First of all, thank god that Mad Dog hooked me up with a PC otherwise I would feel so completely isolated.

The day I arrived it was 40 degrees in the shade with a thunderstorm that might.....yes, exactly the vegas that I remember.

I gave myself the first week off....took two days to drive up and then just bummed around and went to the shops and stuff.

Started washing walls today.....cut my finger in the first 5 mins....why does that always happen to me? Am going to have to amend my plan and do rooms with load of furniture in two stages, mainly coz I can't move it out by myself or that its took much of an effort to take it apart.

Will do the undercoat tomorrow and then head off to pick the bedroom paint colours....nothing like deciding the colour scheme on a whim
